St James, Ince

St James, Ince

St. James the Great, dating from the 15th century, sits in the historic village of Ince, which is listed in the Domesday Book. It is suggested that a Norman church / chapel existed on the site around 1086, but sadly nothing remains of this building.

The Church has several unusual features, the floor is on one level between Nave and the Chancel, also has an inclined aisle. We also boast some lovely stained glass windows, two of which are by Kemp, depicting Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and a smaller window by Trena M.Cox of Chester, depicting St. Francis and St Werburgh.
