Passchendaele memorial restoration project gathers pace with help from local groups and supporters!

The Western Front Association Merseyside Branch visited Ypres last week as part of the commemorations to mark the start of the Battle of Passchendaele. Read about their visit to the cemetery where Private George Ellis is buried in this article.

Thank you to Judith Beastall of the Western Front Association Merseyside Branch who has been in touch regarding our fundraising effort to restore the memorial to Private George Ellis in the grounds of our churchyard.

Whilst visiting Ypres last week as part of the commemorations to mark the start of the Battle of Passchendaele, Judith and her friends Margaret and Bruce Hubbard visited the Menin Road South Military Cemetery where Private Ellis's remains lie. The precise location of Private Ellis's grave isn't known but he is commemorated with a distinctive Commonwealth War Graves Commission gravestone which bears the words 'believed to be buried in this cemetery.' Judith kindly sent the following images from her visit which is very much appreciated and a really special link between our own memorial in Ince and the one in France.

Last week, Judith's branch of the Western Front Association raised £50 at their regular meeting which they have kindly donated to our fundraising campaign. THANK YOU so much to everyone who contributed.
