Planning for outreach and to grow our church here in Thornton-le-Moors, Ince and Elton!
Our 'Ecumenical Church Council' (to use the jargon!) or the team who help 'manage' our parish, met for our annual planning 'away day' at All Saints' Church, Hoole on Saturday 25th February 2017. We had a really productive time talking over the progress we've made over the last year, the areas we need to improve and the opportunities we have to reach out into our community to share God's love in the year ahead. The group who met is pictured here - some looking at the camera and some not!
Commenting, the Revd Ruth Ackroyd said:
"The mission of our church here in our villages is to share God's love in the community. As part of the Diocese of Chester's Growth Action Planning programme, we meet each year to review the progress we've made against a number of goals and deliverable objectives. We want to use our energy and talents wisely and discern God's calling for the church in our area, praying that we are able to reach out to the diverse community that we are."
A short time of worship took place before our discussions started and concluded with the GAP prayer and our commitment of all the plans we have made to God's care and his guidance. Here are the words of the prayer we used:
Lord Jesus Christ,
You command and inspire your church to make disciples:
May our church become a joyful and vibrant community of welcome, worship and service, spreading hope to those around us and attracting others to the fire of your love:
May your Spirit be at work through our Growth Action Planning, helping us to catch a vision for your church and to serve you faithfully, to your glory and honour. Amen.
